There have been many successful and famous rappers in the history of hip-hop. From the founding fathers to the rapper who just got discovered yesterday, making a great impact on the youth or hip-hop culture as a whole is every rapper's most important goal.
Rappers spend a lifetime living big, chasing dreams, and rapping about their legacy after they're gone. Meaning, every rapper dreams of becoming a GOAT (Greatest of All the Time) and always being remembered. Although they're very few rappers who don't care about that, hence it's not the general case.
In this article, we shall look at rappers who have had a tremendous influence on the youth. We're talking about worldwide impact since not every rapper gets to enjoy worldwide fame.
Kendrick Lamar
Not everybody enjoys rappers who always rap about racial or "political" problems. When rappers become too conscious, they get labeled as corny or preachy. A good number of these rappers always end up lost right at the beginning of their career. Failing to achieve commercial success and establishing a successful brand. But they're rappers like Kendrick Lamar who have proven to be different.
It feels safe to say Kendrick Lamar has been able to have an impact on all living generations of hip-hop, especially Generation Z. His ability to produce catchy hooks has led to the creation of street and urban anthems sung especially by the youth.
The Migos
Clearly, we all understand there's no longer a Migos, which is quite unfortunate. The Migos, a famous American trap group consisting of Quavo, Offset, and the late Takeoff (Rest in Peace), completely reshaped the rap industry while in their prime. They became the embodiment and representation of trap music, which helped them gain massive worldwide commercial success. Also making them become the mirror of the youth, especially upcoming rappers.
Drake
Drake has been able to solidify his position as a worldwide rap icon. Discovered and groomed by the GOAT himself, Lil Wayne. Drake has been able to master the art of hit songs, being able to accumulate a full catalog of party anthems over the years.
YE
YE, also known as Kanye West or Yeezy, is the rapper everybody talks about. He can influence the youth through music and fashion, while also creating room for social media drama. It's hard to find someone who doesn't know about YE, and he is easily one of the best producers of New School Hip-Hop.
50 Cent
50 Cent has managed to claim the title of New School Hip-Hop's gangster rap representative. Although he has not been putting out much music in recent years, Generation Z knows him because of his social media feuds and his recent Television series, especially "POWER".
Lil Wayne
Lil Wayne is without a doubt one of the most influential rappers in the history of Hip Hop. He helped reshape the culture and has a lot to do with the image and style of most new school rappers. There is almost a Lil Wayne within every rapper with dreads and face tattoos.
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj is said to be one of the most successful female rappers in the history of Hip-Hop. Although she often describes herself as barbie or queen, her unmovable confidence and ego often seem intimidating to her peers, especially fellow female rappers. Which often makes her be perceived as the villain, although she's one of the main inspirations behind the success of the majority of new-school female hip-hop artists.
Future
Future or Pluto is one of those rap artists who live within their bubble. Although he's slightly less in the spotlight for controversies and drama, he has also managed to accumulate a generous amount of hit songs. Placing him on one the list of one of the most influential hip-hop artists in the world.
J. Cole
Same as Kendrick, J. Cole is also a very important entity of conscious rap. Although he has been solo for the most prominent part of his career, he is one of the biggest influences on the youth trying to tap into the conscious rap scene. He is often regarded as a teacher, which speaks volumes about his private lifestyle and conscious lyrics.
Travis Scott
We spoke about the Migos earlier in this article, there is a good number of young rappers placing them at the top of the pyramid when it comes to good sources of inspiration. This can also be said about Travis Scott. There is a whole group of new artists who have decided to make their music sound similar to Travis'. These artists not only imitate melodies but also copy ad-libs and background vocals from his music.
